The “Simple Life” star - who pleaded guilty to DUI (driving under the influence) on July 27 - reported to California’s Century Regional Detention Facility, in Lynwood, at 3.15pm, accompanied by her boyfriend Joel Madden and her lawyer.
The pregnant star was booked and then released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 4.37pm because of chronic jail overcrowding Under-sheriff Larry Waldie insists Nicole did not receive special treatment because of her celebrity status. He said: “The reality of overcrowding is that would have happened to any female inmate with a 96-hour sentence.”
“They were told to treat her like any other inmate, and that is what happened here.” The current sheriff’s policy states all non-violent female offenders sentenced to 30 days or less are booked and released within 12 hours. The 25-year-old star was arrested for DUI on December 11 after being spotted driving the wrong way down a Los Angeles freeway. As well as receiving a four-day jail sentence, she was ordered to serve a three-year probation term, sign up to an alcohol education program and fined $2,048.
Nicole is not the first celebrity to be released because of jail overcrowding.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have got his and hers tattoos.The couple reportedly got the new body art pieces done during a trip to Chicago this week.
Rather than going to a parlor, Brad and Angelina were visited by a tattoo artist from the Chicago Tattooing Co. at their hotel.The artist is believed to have spent most of the day completing the work, and members of the couple’s staff and security team are also thought to have had pieces done.
A source said: “An artist from the company slipped up to the 18th floor of the Peninsula Hotel.”"He spent the better part of a day needling Angelina and Brad, and some members of staff and security team.”
Chicago Tattooing Co. owner Nick Coletta has refused to confirm whether or not the visit took place.Angelina is known for her love of body art and the alleged new piece is believed to be her fourteenth.The “Tomb Raider” actress’ tattoos include a large Asian tiger on her back, a large black cross on her left hip and the words “Know Your Rights” just below her neck.
She recently had a tattoo in honor of where her and Brad’s four children were born.

Sienna Miller vehemently rejects her ”Sleeparound Sienna” nickname.The “Factory Girls” actress - who dated Jude Law for two years and has been romantically linked to a string of men, including Daniel Craig, Diddy and Sean Bean - denies she is as promiscuous as people think.
She said: “I always hear things about me and different men. Is my nickname Sleeparound Sienna? I can assure you I’m not.”
To add further weight to her claims, the 25-year-old star has rubbished rumors she is dating “Notting Hill” star Rhys Ifans.The 39-year-old actor recently moved into her London home, but Sienna insists their living arrangement is totally innocent.
She said: “He lives on a boat and it has flooded so at the moment he is sleeping on my sofa.”
